Printcolor becomes a full member of Fogra

Printcolor announces its full membership of the FOGRA Forschungsgesellschaft Druck e.V. today. In future, the company will increasingly participate in projects in the card sector and in a range of printing technology topics.

The FOGRA Forschungsgesellschaft Druck e.V. in Munich promotes research and development in the printing industry. For this purpose the association also maintains its own institute with approximately 60 employees including scientists from the areas of printing technology, engineering, chemistry and physics.

Printcolor Screen Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of sophisticated printing inks for plastics. In recent years the company has become an innovative provider of solutions for the production of national security documents and bank cards. These card products must meet the most stringent requirements in terms of function and wear resistance.

The FOGRA Card Laboratory specializes in all standard tests in accordance with the relevant standardizations ISO 10373-1, ISO/IEC 8710 and ISO/IEC 24789. In addition, employees of the respective division headed by Mr. Arne Müller have carried out a variety of tests on the reliability of security features in card systems and have demonstrated methods for reproducible testing. This makes it possible to systematically identify the many chemical and physical burdens acting on a card system and, at the same time, assess its long term integrity.

"The future cooperation with FOGRA will improve our understanding in simulating the unusually long life cycle of more than ten years for the card products," says Peter Paul, head of the Security Inks division at Printcolor. "The findings will enable us to make forecasts on the durability and standards compliance of our printing inks, coatings and security features - even in the early development phases of new ID card projects."

Printcolor will also participate in general FOGRA projects with the objective of analyzing the technical processes of printing technology and making it available for standardization. "We are looking forward to a good cooperation and are convinced that we can offer our customers important additional benefits as a result," says a confident Peter Paul.
